Privacy and Cookie Policy

Last updated: 18 August 2026

This policy explains what information Free Online Tuner (freeonlinetuner.com and afinadoronline.es) processes when you visit the site, how the microphone access required by the tuner works, and which cookies are set by the third-party services we use, primarily Google AdSense and Google Analytics.

1. Who is responsible

This website is operated by the owner of Free Online Tuner. You can contact us about any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, at contact@freeonlinetuner.com.

2. The microphone: audio never leaves your device

To detect the pitch of your strings, the tuner needs access to your device's microphone. Your browser will ask for explicit permission the first time, and you can revoke that permission at any moment from the browser's own settings.

Audio is processed entirely on your device, inside the browser, using the Web Audio API. It is never recorded, never stored, and never transmitted to our servers or to any third party. Frequency analysis happens in real time and the sound is discarded immediately: no copy of what the microphone captures is ever created.

Microphone access is only active while the tuner is running. Stopping the tuner, or closing the tab, ends audio capture.

3. What data is processed

We do not require registration and we do not create user accounts. We do not ask for your name, your address, or any other identifying information. The data processed is the following:

4. Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small file that a website stores in your browser. This site uses first-party technical cookies and third-party cookies for analytics and advertising purposes.

4.1 Technical and preference cookies

These are needed for the basic operation of the site and to remember your instrument, tuning and language preferences. They do not require consent.

4.2 Analytics cookies: Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand in aggregate how the tuner is used so that we can improve it. It sets cookies that record metrics such as number of visits, pages viewed and session duration. You can read how Google handles this information in How Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

4.3 Advertising cookies: Google AdSense

This site is free and is funded by advertising. We serve ads through Google AdSense. In connection with that:

You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time through Google Ads Settings, and manage cookies from other ad networks at Your Online Choices or at aboutads.info/choices. Opting out of personalisation does not remove ads: you will still see advertising, but it will be less relevant to you.

4.4 Managing or deleting cookies

In addition to the options above, you can block or delete cookies already stored through your browser settings. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and other common browsers all allow this from their privacy section. Blocking all cookies does not prevent you from using the tuner, because pitch detection does not depend on them.

5. Consent in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom

If you visit us from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we show a consent notice before setting any analytics or advertising cookies, where you can accept them, reject them, or configure them granularly. The notice is operated by a Google-certified consent provider (Google Privacy & Messaging) and is integrated with Google Consent Mode: until you answer, advertising and analytics storage stay denied.

Your choice is stored for future visits and you can change it at any time using the "Manage consent" link in the tuner's footer. That link only appears if you are in a region where the notice applies. Technical cookies required for the site to function are always set.

6. Legal basis for processing

Technical and preference cookies rely on our legitimate interest in providing a functioning service. Analytics and advertising cookies, and personalised advertising, rely exclusively on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out beforehand. Microphone access likewise relies on the permission you grant through your browser.

7. Recipients and international transfers

Analytics and advertising data are processed by Google (Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC), which may transfer them to servers located outside the European Economic Area. Such transfers rely on the safeguards provided for under European law, including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. You can review the details in Google's Privacy Policy. We do not sell or otherwise disclose your data to any other third party.

8. Retention

We do not retain personal data on our servers. Cookie lifetimes vary by purpose and provider, ranging from the length of the session up to a typical maximum of twenty-four months for Google's advertising and analytics cookies.

9. Your rights

You may exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction of processing and portability, and withdraw your consent at any time, by writing to contact@freeonlinetuner.com. Because we hold no identifiers of our own, requests concerning data processed by Google may need to be addressed to that provider directly. If you believe your request has not been handled properly, you may lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

10. Children

This site is not specifically directed at children under the age of fourteen and does not knowingly collect data from them. If you are below that age, we recommend using the tuner with the supervision of an adult.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect legal changes or changes in the services we use. Any modification will be published on this same page together with a new update date.
